316 Lambton Road | New Lambton
An area rich in mining history, we were presented with the opportunity of developing a unique site in New Lambton which occupies the full extent of the block, and addresses four different street frontages. The concept for the design drew heavily on the existing surrounds which is dominated by colonial and traditional style weatherboard architecture, while breaking down the scale and bulk of the project. The underlying idea was to create a community of unique and individual dwellings within an overall architectural aesthetic.
This was achieved through a process of ‘subtraction’ from the roof forms and facades, creating unique angles, and an interplay between various materials and textures.
The ultimate result is 8 x 3 bedroom townhouses that, while possessing their own distinct characters, combine to create a cohesive architectural aesthetic that responds well to it’s context both historical and immediate.
